The ultimate way to wear your vintage inspired outfit

So, happy summer to all of you! I can't believe classes are over and I'm one year closer on officially turning an Architect. Summer is finally here and I can't wait to set my foot on the swimming pool, settle at the beach place and start doing all the things I couldn't do during the year (blogging is of course, one of them). Sewing, drawing, shooting new outfits and ideas are already on my summer plan. Any ideas and activities will be welcomed!
Today I'm doing my best on showing you the ultimate way and tips on how to wear your vintage inspired outfit. I'm aware on some people don't willing to wear something thrifted or coming from vintage and second hand stores because someone wore it before, but it's OK! You don't have to wear something necessarily coming from a second hand store, or spend a million bucks to achieve an unique, slightly coming from another era look without looking costumey.
Here I'm giving you some tips you may use:
Here I'm giving you some tips you may use:
- Accessories. Earrings, necklaces, sunglasses or even buttons are the best way on getting started with vintage! You may have some really cool, true vintage accessories at home you can borrow from your grandma. Today's outfit is a great example on how to look super retro when the only piece being actually vintage are the accessories (earrings and necklace). Tired of your regular, plain white shirt? Revamp it with some old, huge and super 80's buttons!
- Versatile pieces. There're plenty midi skirts, flowy dresses and floral shirts manufactured now at 21st Century but looking totally vintage out there at the market, waiting for you. Now that sales are about to start why not getting some timeless pieces to assemble your modern, but vintage looking outfit? Toile de Jouy, polka dots and floral patterns would be a nice start!
- Shoes. I'm a total maniac with where I put my feet on, and thrifted shoes can be not only tricky to chose, but sometimes a nasty thing. Why not getting a pair of Oxford Shoes and a classy leather kitten heels to start building your own closet? Investing on a pair of shoes is always a good idea you won't regret.
- Statement piece. Maybe you found something really great there at your closet which looks absolutely antique, but you don't know how to wear it. Make it your statement, main piece and assemble the whole look around that awesome skirt or blouse hidden there at the back of the wardrobe.
- DIY-it! Add shoulder pads to your favorite blazer for some serious eighties vibes. Add some lace to the bottom part of that floral dress which wouldn't feel totally suitable at the 50's. Look for some tutorials on how to create your own tulle petticoat to wear with the dress mentioned before. A quick Pinterest tour would do!
- Makeup and hair. Not in the mood of crafting, or even sneaking around at your closet? Get the hair gel, hairspray and some bobby pins. Curl and pin it creating soft waves for the most flattering 20's vibes. Or get wild backcombing it with your brush to achieve a really 80's look. Makeup is a great idea as well. You can't imagine what a red lipstick and some eyeliner touches may change!
- Confidence. You are a brave (and a super original) person just for making the decision on embracing the vintage look. No matter how old you are, or where you live. Always smile. Keep it bright and thank people who compliment you. Your vintage inspired outfit will say to the world that you are as unique as your clothes are!
