BEHIND THE DESIGN: Elvira 't Hart, Out of Line
9:00 AMWhen I first met Elvira 't Hart designs I could do nothing but feel amazed at the idea behind the whole line and the particular performance process.
Elvira is a fashion designer and illustrator based in Utrecht, Netherlands. She absolutely loves drawing and sketching, her work has been featured on several expositions and fashion fairs in Paris and Milan, international magazines and also worn by Lady Gaga! Just a little hint of the talent I'm talking to you about today.
If there is something I love about fashion is its adaptability and versatility. With imagination and the right tools, you can create a whole new world of possibilities and start your own revolution. And that's what Elvira 't Hart did by converting her sketches and line drawings into the patterns of her brand new collection. She wanted to execute the designs exactly how she drawn them, nor lose any of the characteristics and the spontaneity on the lines traced on the paper. By skipping some steps on the traditional pattern making process, Elvira cuts her pieces directly by laser to assemble geometrical pieces which are literally order out of chaos. She mostly works with leather, so her drawings turned into clothing aren't fragile and don't need extra final touches when cut. Her designs are neat, adaptable, and create a subtle transition between the body and the clothing itself.
Tops, blazers and scarfs are just an example of what can be done out of line drawings. Out of Line is precisely Elvira's next collection to be launched, and which she's raising funds to produce at Wowcracy. Are you already supporting it?
